March 2011 Partner Assignments

Posted on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at 05:33 PM • Permalink9 Comments

Welcome back, everyone! Going forward, we're doing things a little differently. Partner assignments will be posted here, you'll post your interview URLs here, you can even post your questions here in the comments, once you've sent them to your partner. It centralizes things a bit more, makes things a little more transparent, and hopefully does away with some of the frustrating communcations-drops that have happened in previous rounds.

Partner assignments for the month of March 2011 are:

Completed:

To Be Done:

All those links go to folks' member profile page, so you may need to log in to see the information (like their Twitter ID and their actual site URL.)

Write up seven questions for your partner, send them off, and then once you've received your answers and posted the interview on your site - leave that URL here. You have until the 28th of the month to post your interview with your partner on your site. You're free to post it earlier if you wish, and leave the URL here once you're done.

If you have any questions about how this works, check out the guidelines or ask your questions in the comments below. (If you have a question, chances are someone else does too...!)

Beauty Blogs Backstage is going to be changing a bit. Partner assignments will be public, links to interviews will be left in the comments, and most communications will happen right on the site rather than through email. This will hopefully cut down on some of the administriviata that slows things up, particularly mid-month as folks start reporting in that they lost their partner assignments (or that their partner still hasn’t gotten back to them, or what have you). I’m also going to be a bit more hard-line with culling the chronically nonparticipant.

The final week of February (so around the 28th), I’ll post the partner assignments for March. More information and instructions will be right in the post, so that everyone knows what to do, when and where and all that stuff.

Hopefully these changes toward transparency and open communications will let more people actually participate on a regular basis.

If anyone would like to opt out of March, or has been on hiatus but would like to resume, please leave a comment on this post.

Guidelines

Application Guidelines

To be accepted into Beauty Blogs' Backstage, you must meet these requirements:

  1. Blogs must be active (updating at least twice a week), and at least six months old (blog archives and activity must be easily verifiable - monthly archives are the best solution. Don't make me hunt around to find your oldest post and verify the site's age, I'll just assume that the blog isn't old enough.)
  2. You must blog about beauty at least 50% of the time (makeup, skincare, nails/polish, et cetera.)
  3. Your blog must be publicly available (no password protection or membership required to read the posts.)
  4. Your blog must be in English, or have an English translation of all posts.

Please also be aware that this program works differently from many other blog-linking programs. Each month, only one email is sent out to all participants, notifying people when the partner assignments are posted. One additional tweet is sent a week before the end of the month, reminding people about the deadline. Other than that, though, each participant is responsible for contacting their assigned partner, posting their interview, and commenting on that months' partner assignment post if they can't get a response from their partner that month (or if they themselves need to take a month off.)

LIST BEING REVISED; CHECK BACK LATER. All sites active in the Beauty Blogs’ Backstage network will be listed here. Blogs that have asked to be removed, or who are on a short “recess”, will still be listed as active. Blogs that have been removed for violations of the guidelines (multiple failures to interview, not posting their partners’ interviews, not keeping the sites’ interviews posted on their site) will be removed from this list.

Sites will be listed in the order which they joined.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this work?
People can sign up for B3 at any time - but if you register on the 1st day of the month, you won’t be assigned a partner until the following month.

On the 1st day of every month, partner assignments will be posted to the site. By the 10th of that month, everyone should have written and sent (or posted to their site) seven questions for their partner. By the 20nd of that month, each person should have answered those seven questions, and emailed the answers back to their partner. By the 28th of that month, each person should have posted their interview to their own site, and left the URL of that post here on the hub site. (Hint: the earlier you post your completed interview and leave the URL in the comments, the faster you’ll get SEO for your own site.)
